On Friday, Feb. 3, at 7 PM, Winnipeg Police Cause Harm (WPCH) will be hosting a free hour-long workshop at Central Community Centre (Door 6, 200 Isabel Street) about community safety beyond police.
The installation of security measures at the Millennium Library is a product of a broader carceral culture which has normalized the institutionalization of policing and the presence of invasive security technologies in public and private spaces.
The WPS’ decision to not search for the bodies of these women is a deliberate choice – one that exemplifies the institutional lack of protection and the failure to respond to violence against Indigenous women by police institutions across Canada.
